Why did you join the Vocalo storytelling workshops? A couple friends of mine participated in the previous workshop. They had such positive experiences that I was excited to apply. I have an interest in radio and storytelling as a listener and wanted to give production a try.

Your piece in 20 seconds: Pinbot is an 80s pinball machine that recently captured my imagination at a local arcade. I decide to learn more and seek the wisdom of the silver ball from a few Chicago pinball experts and enthusiasts.

Why did you decide to tell this story? I wanted to tell a story about summer. At first pinball seemed to be a strange way to do that, but I think it captured the freedom and spontaneity of the season.

In what ways are you a better storyteller or a producer? The Vocalo staff and the guest speakers gave us such a great wealth of information that I really feel like I improved in every step of the process. My interviewing style became more relaxed, I learned to let the story lead my thoughts, the timing of my editing has become crisper, and overall I feel more confident that producing for the radio is something most everyone can find a voice in.
